Avatar is Back at Maya Cinemas

If your one of the few people who missed seeing Avatar the first time it was in theatres, your in luck. James Cameron's large blue aliens are coming back to the Maya cinemas in all their 3D glory.

Avatar:Special Edition will arrive in Salinas Friday Aug 27th

So what's so special about the new addition? 8 whole minutes of video. Yes, Avatar will be even longer, which may or may not be a good thing?

Avatar's story may be weak, but 8 more minutes of some of the best 3D effects just might be worth a second viewing.

Crops Affected by Unusual Heat

While some may be welcoming a break from the low clouds. Central Coast farmers are scrambling to save their crops.

Berries, tomatoes and peppers are among the crops with a sun tan mark on them causing farmers to lose produce.

La Milpa Organic Farm owner Florentino Dimas said when produce is sunburned they can't sell it so they have to pick as much as possible before the sun gets stronger.

"We have to pick them when they're a little green but not ripe.

Sonnie's Journey with Alzheimer's:

The reactions that Sonnie had during this time differed from earlier reactions in the way they started.  It was like flipping a switch from Off to On.  Before they would take time to build up and I could adjust and make things a little more comfortable.  Today I reach for a ½ pill of XANAX and hope for the best.  I would win a few and I lose a few.  Fortunately, I took the “Savvy Caregiver Training Program” by the Alzheimer’s Association (Thanks Pat) and learned “Don’t argue, you can’t win”.  Anyway, I starting to get a handle on how to cope with catastrophic reactions and at least take off some of the pressure.  I can see where the book titled “The 36 Hour Day” came from.  My days were probably at the 30 hour mark and gaining.

Sonnie had taken up swearing.  In all our years together I had heard very few cuss words cross her lips.  Most of those were spoken either when she was sewing or questioning my ancestry.  She was

"Soccer Freestyler" Teaches Life Lessons

The "soccer freestyler," Abraham Muñoz, was no doubt the best juggler on the soccer fields Sunday afternoon.

As soon as he started showing off impressive tricks, kids gathered to "ooh" and "aah."  Once they were hooked, they listened, as Muñoz told them about practice, discipline and staying off the streets.

"If everybody has a dream, it's not hard -- just do it!  Practice, practice," said Muñoz.

His dream eventually took him from picking lettuce to playing stadiums in Mexico, and now he performs tricks and breaks records all around the world.

Young soccer players said they came away with a positive message.

"He tells us to stay in school.  You can learn how to do that," said Marco Hernandez, pointing at Muñoz.  "It's all about math, sometimes."

Parents said they hope more children will follow his example: "It motivates kids to do different sports," said Marisela Rangel.
