Salinas Man Believes Burglars Used Facebook To Target His Home

Salinas Man Believes Burglars Used Facebook To Target His Home

SALINAS, Calif. - With the vacation season coming up, one Central Coast man is saying be careful what you put on social media because burglars may be looking for more than just empty houses.

Central Coast News spoke to Peter Husser who says he lost more than $50,000 worth of his belongings thanks to a simple check in.

Earlier this month, an air compressor, tool box, 50-inch TV and his car were taken right from his garage in a quiet Salinas neighborhood. Husser says knowing that it would take time to move those things, the burglars must have known he wouldn't be back for some time, and he thinks he knows how: Facebook. Check-ins on a camping trip and his girlfriend's pictures in London, he says, made him a perfect target.

"It's gotten to the point now where some friends have always joked about putting up video surveillance, but of course after this I've gone ahead and done that," he said.

Second Petition To Recall Salinas Mayor Rejected

SALINAS, Calif. - The second petition to recall Salinas Mayor Joe Gunter has been rejected.

The city clerk tells Central Coast News that there was "inconsistent writing" in the paperwork submitted by the recall group. For example, the city clerk says, the group refers to Gunter as both Salinas mayor and Salinas city mayor.

The group now has 10 days to file a corrected version of the paperwork.

This recall petition stems from drama that's been going on for months on the Salinas City Council.

Councilman Jose Castaneda also sits in a school board seat for the Alisal Union School District. His supporters are the ones trying to recall Mayor Gunter.
