Salinas' Plants for Paws Fundraiser

Salinas' Plants for Paws Fundraiser

SALINAS, Calif.- It's spring and the Salinas Animal Services wants to beautify your outdoor living space by helping homeless pets at the same time.

A Salinas Animal Services' fundraiser will help get your garden ready for the season and help out local homeless animals in the process on Saturday, April 13th. They will hold a plant and flower sale, appropriately named "Plants for Paws" from 11-3pm at 144 Hitchcock Road, Salinas (the 2nd shelter on Hitchcock Road).

These plants, generously donated by Benary Seed Company of Watsonville, will be a variety of garden plants and flowers that are perfect for planting in pots or directly into your garden. Most importantly, all proceeds will benefit the shelter. So stop by on April 13th and help brighten up Salinas.

Young Authors Compete at the Steinbeck Center

Young Authors Compete at the Steinbeck Center

Salinas, Calif.- 78 young authors from Monterey County Schools work to perfect their skills on Monday during the Day of Writing event at the John Steinbeck Center. The event brings local professionals together with the young authors to help hone their craft along the lines of Steinbeck's classic "The Red Pony."

The Steinbeck Young Authors program was created to provide students with the opportunity to explore the excitement of writing while enhancing their writing skills.  Their essays were meant to take the life lessons from Jody the 10 year old central character in The Red Pony written in 1933. These lessons then were incorporated into their own lives and put to paper.
