Salinas Residents Talk About New Police Tax

The Committee of Salinas Residents behind an effort to support a means of funding more police officers & build a new police station has planned a Community Meeting for Monday, June 3rd at 6:15PM, 2013 at Cesar Chavez Elementary – 1225 Towt St., Salinas CA 93905.

The committee consists of a broad base of supporters including leadership from business, labor, neighborhood associations and taxpayer groups. As discussed to this point, the measure will include a sales tax to fund the construction of a new police station along with funding for additional police officers and possible support for the fire department. The measure would include an oversight committee and protection against cuts to existing police funding that could result due to the new tax. Translation will be arranged for during the meeting.

Salinas Hazardous Materials Response

City of Salinas said Wednesday the Salinas Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials (Haz-Mat) Unit 2 has passed a stringent capabilities review by the California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA).

SALINAS, Calif.- The lines in the sand are already starting to develop surrounding a possible tax to build a police station and hire more officers in Salinas, according to one Salinas city council member. 

A Community Meeting is planned with the Salinas Chief of Police to better understand the gravity of the situation, according to council member Steve McShane.

The Committee of Salinas Residents supports funding more police officers and building a new police station. It has planned a Community Meeting for Monday, April 29th at 6:00PM, 2013 at Temple Beth El Church – 1212 Riker St., Salinas CA 93901.

The committee consists of a broad base of supporters including leadership from the recently successful Measure E Committee along with folks from business, labor, neighborhood associations and taxpayer groups.

Monterey County Organization Reaches Milestone

It's a new year and 2013 marks the 45th Anniversary of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County.

In a news release, staff said it's an incredible testimony to the vision and commitment of this community to serve children.


The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County started out in a small house in 1968 with just 10 kids. Now, after 45 years of service, it's bigger and better than ever.

There are two clubhouses and three extension sites serving almost 1,000 kids daily, more children than ever are benefitting from having a safe haven where they can learn, grow and have fun. 
 

Salinas Neighborhood Crime Meeting

 

 

 

The Salinas Neighborhood Council announced today their monthly public meeting for Wednesday. January 16th  from 6:00 – 7:00PM at Salinas City Hall- 200 Lincoln Ave., Salinas CA 93901.  The meeting is free to the public and will feature networking for neighbors engaged in community based efforts to fight crime and improve quality of life for folks living in Salinas. 

 

Special attention at this meeting will be committed to grants available from the City of Salinas and the Community Foundation of Monterey County for neighborhood organizations and efforts addressing crime.  There will also be discussion of several issues including the police tax being pitched and Salinas United 2013.

Have You Heard of National Pancake Day?

In a news release, the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals announced it joined forces with IHOP to kick off the organization’s 30th Anniversary in 2013 with a goal of raising $3 million on National Pancake Day.

Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital is a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals facility and will benefit from all proceeds raised locally. 

The news release said National Pancake Day will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 7 a.m.
