At-Risk Youth Organization Opens Doors to Public | Events

 

Salinas' non-profit group, Rancho Cielo, is holding an open house Saturday, Oct. 8. The fun-filled day will be held at the ranch, where the public can enjoy family friendly activites benefitting the youth campus.

From 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. the public is invited to the Rancho Cielo Youth Campus, 710 Old Stage Road, Salinas. Rancho Cielo Youth Campus is opening its doors to Monterey County for the Family Play Day to showcase its tremendous achievements. It will be hosted by students of Rancho Cielo, beginning with a 5K and 10K morning run, followed by family events for all ages including a rodeo, guided hikes, rock climbing, a BBQ picnic, live music and much more. 

The non-profit was established in 2000 to benefit youth in the area. It supports local youth through educational programs focused on achieving a high school diploma and vocational skills training.

"This day will be fabulous and an opportunity for the public to tour the ranch and learn more about how Rancho Cielo invests in our community," said Ret. Judge John Phillips, Rancho Cielo board president. "Here at the ranch we play a vital role in supporting disadvantaged youth who recognize a need to grow toward a more positive and productive way of life."                               

Family Play Day Events include:

·5k & 10k Race (9 a.m.)– To register, please visit www.active.com. ·Ranch Rodeo Activities for Adults and Kids  (9 a.m. at the Monterey County Sherrif’s Posse Grounds)– 3 Man Team/Draw Events include: Ribbon Roping, Sort & Pen, and Calf Ear Tagging; Children’s Events include: Boots Race, Stick Horse Race and Golden Horse Show Hunt. Charro Stallion Show

• Family Activities include (11-4 p.m.) – Basketball Shooting Contest, Fishing Derby, Archery Contest, Climbing Wall, Golf Activities, Live Animals, Guided Hikes and more
• Tri Tip BBQ (11-4 p.m.) – $10 per ticket, proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Youth Campus
• Raffle & Incredible Prizes – With proceeds benefiting the Youth Campus
• Other highlights include – Live Musical Performances and a Cake Walk & Bake Sale
