SALINAS, Calif- A man was arrested Monday night after he punched his girlfriend because of her Facebook relationship status, said the Salinas Police Department.
Police said 21-year-old Luis Salazar and his 19-year-old girlfriend were dating for about a month when they got into an argument over the victim's relationship status on Facebook. Police said Salazar "physically battered" his girlfriend during the fight but she did not report it to police.
Monday evening the couple got into another fight over a text message the victim received, said police. The text message started Salazar questioning the victim about her relationship status on Facebook again, reported police. The victim tried to get Salazar to pull the car over and let her out, but police say that he refused. Instead of stopping the car, Salazar punched the victim in the face several times, said police.
Salazar finally dropped the victim off at home and someone called to report the incident.
Officers were able to contact Salazar on the phone but they say he refused to meet with them. However, officers were able to arrest Salazar when he returned home Monday night.
Salazar was transported to county jail for domestic violence.
