Have You Heard of National Pancake Day?

In a news release, the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals announced it joined forces with IHOP to kick off the organization’s 30th Anniversary in 2013 with a goal of raising $3 million on National Pancake Day.

Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital is a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals facility and will benefit from all proceeds raised locally. 

The news release said National Pancake Day will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 7 a.m.

It's Time for Paws and Pints

It's the 5th annual Paws and Pints Fundraiser for Salinas Animal Services.

People are invited to enjoy great food and local brews, plus support the local animal shelter.

The event will be held at the English Ales Brewery at 223 Reindollar Ave. in Marina on Monday, December 3rd, from 5-8pm. Bring donations for the shelter (towels/blankets, toys, canned food, collars/leashes, etc.) and receive a ticket for one of several drawings.

Monterey Restaurants Kick Off Turkey Challenge

It's all about giving back, and several of the most popular seafood restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula are stepping in to help with the 2nd annual Turkey Challenge.

The Shake brothers, Chris and Sabu, own Old Fisherman's Grotto and The Fish Hopper. They are asking people in the community to donate one or more turkeys, about $20 each, for the Salvation Army of the Monterey Peninsula.

Another option is to call 831-372-2406 and organizers will purchase and drop off the turkey for you at The Good Samaritan Shelter in Sand City.

Tyson Meat Recalls Tainted Ground Beef Sold in California

WASHINGTON (CBS News)— A Nebraska meatpacker recalled more than 40,000 pounds of ground beef products distributed in 16 states after a test confirmed the presence of E. coli, the Agriculture Department said Friday.

The products were shipped to institutions and distributors in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Tyson Fresh Meats Inc. of Dakota City, Neb., recalled 10-pound chubs of chuck fine ground beef 80/20, packed in cases containing eight chubs.

USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a statement that the problem was discovered through routine monitoring that confirmed a positive result for E. coli. No reports of illness have been received.
