A Salinas School District in question

The Alisal Union School District Superintendent went before the state board of education in Sacramento yesterday.

Esperanza Zendejas presented the challenges the district is facing to meet the "No child left behind" Act which they have not met in 2 years.

For this, they are placed in the "Improvement Program"

AUSD was among the 8 worst districts (academically) in the state. Greenfield and King City Union School Districts are also among them.

Zendejas said the state board decided to send 2 representatives to four of the districts to learn more about them and finds ways to help them out before losing them to the state.
